This is our 1st full day at the ranch; arriving yesterday about 5:00 - flying in via Atlanta to Billings.
Started to miss Pam as soon as we made our 1st stop in Billings; she always arrives with Jiffy Pop! I'm not popping corn without Pam.Probably not in the mood for dominoes either but did hear that Brooke is arriving ... maybe will change my mind.
Lovely drive down from Billings, wheat harvest is in full swing and the fields are gold as far as the eye can see.
The 1st person we see is Charlotte - she's out for a walk. Not a good sign; learn she went off her horse earlier in the day. Coming to a bridge, someone was fishing ... Charlotte told everyone to pay attention because the horses might spook and sure enough ... Charlotte's horse went one way and Charlotte went the other. Fortunately, no injury; she'll be stiff tomorrow.
Meet and greet the Sr Chandors; MC and Steb look wonderful...much more relaxed than last year when they were in the midst of selling their home and moving to another one. Cookie Potter is here ... haven't seen her since 2000.
Having been awake almost 28 hours, I practically fell into bed. The roar of the creek (sounds like rain) lulled me to sleep.
We're staying in Poster ... it was Axe's place when we 1st came to the ranch. It's been remodeled, moved and is nice. Taylors are next to us in Tom and Jerry; Charlotte and Michael, the next cabin to Taylors.
Lots of complaints about cabin cleanliness ... hearing it from more people than MC. Apparently the cabin staff is now all male and their responsibility is clean sheets/clean towels and they're on to the next one. The guy cleaning our cabin said he's got 12 cabins. No longer an open Meet and Greet Bar at the ranch house. You want a drink; go over to the fishing shop ... meaning lots more private parties; making it hard for newcomers to join in.
This too will pass; having come here since 1984; I observe there's an ebb and flow to the place.
Our morning ride was the Olive to the Haw trail - easy. We went with Cookie and wrangler Sara. There are still mariposa lily and monarda in bloom; unusual this time of year. I'm riding Memo and Philip's on Little Owl. Paul tells me I was on Memo last year ... beats me. I'm impressed he remembers. I don't.
Cocktail party tonight, at the Taylors, celebrating Charlotte & Michael's 23 anniversary and Steby's engagement.
Philip, Michael, MJ & Pauline are out shooting. Me...I went for a hike and am ready for a nap.
